River Cruise in Holland and Belgium

April 2012

In mid April 2012, Kathy and I went on a River Cruise in Holland and Belgium. Our main reason for going at that time of year was to see the flowers in bloom. The downside of going in the spring is that the weather is often cold and rainy. We saw some great flowers and much more - medieval town centers, WWII battlefields, cemetaries, Delft pottery making, Gouda cheese, etc. The picture below shows some of the flowers in Keukenhof Gardens outside of Amsterdam.

The first evening we looked out at the lights in Amsterdam harbor. The next morning we took a canal tour in a restored early 20th century canal boat.

The next day on our way to Brussels, we went into Brugge. We walked into the medieval town center to see the canals and bridges. We had lunch and tried the local strong beer "Brugge Tripple". Here are some of the pictures from that day.

The last day of the trip in Brussels, I took a cab out to Castle van Groot to see the "Floralia" flower show. The gardens were almost as good as Kuekenhof in Amsterdam. Here are some of the pictures from Floralia.
